"Would highly recommend Giselle's labor skills and postpartum workshop. My husband and I learned so much. Her approach is totally practical but you can tell it is grounded in a lot of research, science and patient-centric methodology. We've already been practicing the various labor coping moves that she taught us!"

Course Details by Week
(The weekly series follows this schedule. And the online course is organized in the same topics as well but taken at your own pace)
Week 1: Understanding the Labor Process
You will learn what happens in your body during labor, as well as how to create an environment of support that helps you feel at peace and calm during the labor process.
Week 2: Fears around Pregnancy, Birth, and Postpartum
Research shows that fears can be a deterrent for a good labor experience. And with the high rates of mental disorders in pregnancy and postpartum, I believe that addressing fears and finding ways to reduce them is one of the most important things we can do in pregnancy and before labor. You'll also learn techniques that you can use postpartum.
Week 3: Natural Birth Coping Skills
Your birth partner is a source of comfort and support to you in labor. You and your birth partner will learn hands-on coping skills and practice these in class.
Week 4: Breathing in Labor
Your breath is one of the most powerful tools you have in labor. You will learn how to breathe in labor and visualization techniques.
Week 5: Pain Relief Options
You will learn your pain relief options including the risks and benefits, and how to use them for your benefit (should you chose to). You will also learn non-pharmaceutical pain relief for labor.
Week 6: Postpartum Care
The first 6 weeks after birth are precious healing time and resetting as a mother. You will learn what to expect during postpartum. Your birth partner will learn how to care for you and nurture you in the postpartum period.
Week 7: Newborn Care & Infant CPR
This week is all about your baby. You will learn sleep basics, diaper changing, swaddling, and the first bath. You will also learn what baby products/gear you need and don't need. And we will also cover the life-saving skill of infant CPR. And finally we will discuss newborn procedures. This session, just like the others, is hands-on learning.
Week 8: How to Breastfeed Your Baby
Having breastfed four children and as a Baby-Friendly Initiative Instructor, I focus on the key things to know to breastfeed your baby comfortably, establish milk supply, and continue breastfeeding for as long as you'd like.
Week 9: Birth Partners Only
This week is about the birth partner and their role in childbirth and postpartum. During this week, I ask that the birthing mothers not be present (great time to go get a massage or meet-up with a friend for dinner!), as we address the content directly to the birth partner.
Week 10: Birthing Mothers Only
As we complete the series, you will have an open space to discuss your thoughts. You will also be guided through a meditation that will affirm your birth desires and prepare you for your new baby, whether this is your first or your fourth child.
Whether it's in a hospital, a birthing center, or home you'll learn about birth and labor skills to use during your own unique and fantastic birth.
Is this a Bradley Method Childbirth Course?

Love and Reviews
"I didn't realize just how much we would be learning during the class. Thank you!" - Jonathan
"I entered the class not knowing what to expect in labor and whether I'd be able to do a natural birth. I ended the class fully confident and excited to birth my baby!" - Stephanie
An OC Register writer and class attendee shares his empowering experience (in this OC Register article) in supporting his wife through the birth she desires as well as his experience of Labor Skills & Techniques.
"Thank you Giselle! This was a great refresher course for us. We actually learned some new things as well. We didn't know about the rebozo techniques last time and I'm excited to try them out. I'm also very glad to know about Womanology. Your class was super helpful!" - Ashley
“Thank you so much for yesterday ! We had such a great time and found the class very informative. It was really great to be able to take a one day class instead of a several week class, and feel armed with tools and things to practice. Thank you for taking the time to help us get more excited about birth!- Ansley
"I now feel that I'm ready to birth my baby naturally! This class is exactly what my husband and I needed to get prepared for labor. Giselle was wonderful! I feel confident because I got all the tools and information I was looking for." - Marcela
"It provided a wealth of information to me and my partner in a short amount of time that fit our schedules. Giselle provided an array of tools, techniques and practical decision-making skills ranging from birth positions and breathing to how to feel empowered in birthing in a hospital. - Diana
"Very safe, friendly environment, empowering couples/moms to make their own informed decisions. Thank you!" - Julie
"This is not only a great class for expecting mothers, but also soon-to-be fathers! It provided me a real appreciation for what my wife has to go through and how I can be helpful during this amazing event." - Jason
"We learned so much about every aspect of delivering naturally and we really appreciated it. You gave us a more realistic view of what would experience than we have gotten before. I also thought your advice was on ways to cope and postpartum care were valuable beyond words." - Jasmine
"It really reassured us that we would be able to really actively participate in the process and not be a bystander and at the sole mercy of others telling us what to do on the day of the birth. The information that she gave us has boosted both my own and my Wife's confidence." - Scott
"Many of the ideas we learned in Hypnobabies were also mentioned in Giselle's class (ie. how best to succeed in a natural birth without medical interventions) but what I preferred about Giselle's class is that she gave various techniques on how to cope with labor, and we didn't feel pressure to only use one technique. Ultimately, I ended up using more of the techniques that Giselle taught us than Hypnobabies (both in preparation and then during childbirth). I would wholeheartedly recommend her class and will be going back to her for other classes in the future!!" - AJ
My Birth Philosophy
I believe that birth is a sacred, right-of-passage experience in motherhood. And pregnant people should have a judgment-free space to gather education, ask questions, activate their inner resources, and feel heard and supported.
You'll know if this is the class for you if you're looking for a class that provides enjoyable, real, authentic childbirth education that goes beyond the basics and gives you the resources you need to make informed decisions that are best for you and your baby.
I also believe that...
- Birth is normal; it is not a medical condition. (And in my classes you will find that I normalize the various states of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.)
- You should have access to birth options and education to make informed decisions that work best for you and your child.
- You deserve support in your decisions.
- There is not a right or wrong way to birth a baby.
- The emotional and psychological wellness of the mother is essential to the short-term and long-term care of the mother and the baby.
- Pregnant people have the innate ability to connect with their body, mind, and spirit during labor (in any type of birth).
The purpose of my Labor + Postpartum Workshop is that you learn a variety of comfort measures, how to connect your mind, body, and spirit during labor, how to make informed decisions, what to expect during labor and postpartum and to equip you and your partner with the ability to mindfully navigate labor and postpartum for the wellness of the mother and baby. I want you to walk out of the birth feeling good about how your baby was born, whether it was an unmedicated birth or Cesarean birth.
I discuss both medical interventions and also natural coping skills, giving the mother and her support person the skills to navigate the birth experience in any environment. And I cover evidence-based postpartum wellness for the mother as a way to increase the nurturing of the mother so that she is then able to nurture her baby.
What to Expect During a Childbirth Education Class
You should expect a comfortable vibe that is judgment-free. There's humor, lots of powerful knowledge shared, questions, and open discussions.
Partners are highly encouraged to take the childbirth education class as well. I hold a special place for birth partners because I know their role in birth can be very expansive. They have the role of caregiver, motivator, advocate, partner, nurturer, and more. And it can be a vulnerable experience for them as well.
You should expect to complete the class knowing a lot more about yourself, birth, your baby's role in labor, and postpartum than you did before. And to receive an extensive list of local resources after the class.

"Just took the labor + postpartum class and it was incredibly useful. This was our first labor class and I think the condensed format was perfect. It was very dense with information. My wife and I feel so much more confident about the labor process and I think it's the perfect place to start as far as birth classes go. We are planning to have a doula and a fairly standard birth. After this class we feel confident enough to do any additional research on our own and don't feel compelled to take any additional courses." - Danny T.
